Does the RTH2300/RTH221 thermostats work with heat pumps with auxiliary/backup heat?

RTH2300 /RTH221 will only work with a stand alone heat pump and will not work with heat pumps with auxiliary/backup heat.
RTH2510/RTH2410 will work with either a stand alone heat pump or a heat pump with backup.
